USWNT World Cup Media Day is over — Here is what we learned

The IX: Soccer Monday with Annie M. Peterson, July 3, 2023

First off, this is going to be a photo-heavy post with no tweets! Thanks Elon! If you all are migrating somewhere, drop me a note, I’m at apeterson@ap.org. And if anyone has a BlueSky invite to send my way, I would be forever grateful.

As for the USWNT, I have some fun notes and photos to share.

First, Megan Rapinoe’s hair is no longer pink, or even purple, but a nice teal blue.

Crystal Dunn is also sporting some gorgeous blue braids with red nails! It appeared that the USWNT hired a manicurist for Media Day.

Celebrate Alex Morgan and save 13% off The IX

USWNT legend Alex Morgan announced her retirement from professional soccer earlier this month. In honor of her incredible career and lasting impact off the field, you can save 13% when you subscribe to The IX through the end of September.

That’s 13% off daily coverage of women’s sports like soccer, tennis, basketball, golf, hockey and gymnastics.

Trinity Rodman likes to play Fortnite.

Casey Murphy hopes she has enough leg room on the 14-hour flight to New Zealand.

Sophia Smith is very, very popular.

Lynn Williams lost her voice before media day! Not ideal. So she sipped Chamomile tea during her roundtable.

Emily Fox is gorgeous.

No one asked Rose about Wilma. I have failed.

The official women’s world cup song is here:

FIVE AT THE IX: *MORE* USWNT stars!

Listen to Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Lindsey Horan speak from the podium at Media Day. Oh hey, yours truly got in a question.

Also, just a guess here, but centering Horan here could be an indication that she’s gonna be captain.
